We face a common task related to public trust, Deputy Prime Minister Donchev addressed the participants in an economic forum in Sofia

January 1 2026 will be a good day for the Bulgarian economy, business, industry and the entire financial sector. If we examine the dynamics of GDP over the last 40 years, an undisputed booster of development is our accession to the European Union. I expect the adoption of the euro to have the same effect. In the coming years, this will be one of these boosters of the economy. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Innovation and Growth Tomislav Donchev at the “Sound of Money” business forum.

He emphasized that the common task related to the trust and awareness of society is at the forefront. “To talk to people, to reassure everyone. Trust is very important, sometimes even more important than the state of road connectivity, the amount of taxes, etc. Nothing can be done without trust. Both in society and in the economy,” he added.

Regarding speculation about the adoption of the euro, Donchev recalled two examples from recent years. “Modern political technologies allow entire social groups to be made to hallucinate. This is not the first time. In 2016-2017, large groups were convinced that someone was going to take children to Norway. Three years ago, people were convinced that vaccines would chip them. All such rumors disappear and are forgotten. The same will happen with the myth generators related to the euro,” the Deputy Prime Minister also said.

Donchev pointed out that the most powerful factor for competitiveness is the quality of human capital and the qualifications of the workforce. “Therefore, if we decide that all we have to do is finalize the eurozone integration process and we have already done our job, it will be a mistake. There is a historical gap that must become our common task, and that is the Bulgarian industry. It is invisible to society. You often hear that “nothing is produced in Bulgaria”. An absurd statement! No one talks about the industry and the topics that interest it, such as land, speed of processes, speed of investment implementation, connectivity, and professional education. How many young people want to study to become skilled workers and engineers? Among the top priorities is more visibility for the industry, so that both the education system and people can make the right decision when making a choice for professional development,” the Deputy Prime Minister also stated.

According to him, besides the good news, there are also many tasks: “I hope that both Bulgarian society and institutions will live up to the needs and expectations,” he concluded.

Later, Deputy Minister of Innovation and Growth Martin Danovsky also participated in the forum. In the panel on innovation and business transformation, he said that Bulgaria’s economic vision must respond to knowledge, adaptability and speed of reactions in line with modern reality. The Ministry of Innovation and Growth works with the clear awareness that with its tools it is a key public agent for building the ecosystem. However, the state should not be the only center for financing. We live in an economy of networks and cooperation and each member must know his functions, it became clear from his words.

The event brought together successful companies from various sectors, leading economists, financial experts and representatives of Bulgarian, European and international institutions.
