Deputy Minister of Innovation and Digital Transformation Mira Yosifova today held a meeting with representatives of the European Space Agency (ESA), who are in Sofia on a working visit.
During the meeting, the results of the implementation of the second period under the Plan for European Cooperating States (PECS) were presented. The discussion also covered the next steps in developing cooperation with the Agency and opportunities to accelerate Bulgaria’s transition to Associate Membership of ESA.
“Bulgaria has made steady progress in the development of its space sector in recent years through the active participation of Bulgarian enterprises, research organizations, and higher education institutions in ESA programs,” Yosifova said. She emphasized that efforts are underway to deliver additional innovative projects and strengthen capacity in the field of space technologies.
The ESA representatives noted the positive trend in the development of Bulgaria’s space ecosystem and highlighted the importance of ensuring sustainable funding for the technology sector. They also pointed to Bulgaria’s potential in space technologies, particularly in the field of small satellites.
“The Ministry of Innovation and Digital Transformation consistently works to create more opportunities for Bulgarian companies, scientists, and organizations under ESA programs. Our partnership is also important for the development of scientific research, technological capacity, innovation, and the high-tech industry in the sector,” Yosifova concluded.
