Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev and Armenia’s Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation

“Our goal is to build on our excellent political relations with Armenia through enhanced economic cooperation and partnership in the fields of innovation, culture and education”, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Innovation and Growth Tomislav Donchev during the 9th Session of the Bulgarian–Armenian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation, held at Sofia Tech Park. In this regard, an Armenian delegation led by the Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan is conducting a two-day official visit to Bulgaria.

“In recent years, Bulgaria has developed significant potential and expertise in the IT sector and artificial intelligence. Traditionally, we have strengths in mechanical engineering and mechatronics. These are areas where we are ready to exchange experience and explore new opportunities for technology development and joint business projects,” Minister Donchev noted. He emphasized that the experience of Armenian companies in internationalizing their businesses and seeking partners beyond Europe is of great value to Bulgaria.

Minister Hayrapetyan stated that cooperation in scientific research between Bulgaria and Armenia will strengthen bilateral relations and create new opportunities for both countries.

As part of the event, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of High-Tech Industry signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on technological innovation and research and development. The memorandum aims to promote bilateral engagement in areas such as the digital and green transition, emerging technologies, microelectronics, space policy and technology, the exchange of IT specialists, and the growth of the entrepreneurial and startup ecosystem, among others.

Earlier in the day, Donchev and Hayrapetyan held a bilateral meeting to discuss promoting investment between Bulgaria and Armenia, as well as deepening business relations. The Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Bulgaria, Tsovinar Hambardzumyan, attended the meeting. The two delegations also visited the Discoverer+ supercomputer, where the Deputy Prime Minister presented Bulgaria’s advancements in artificial intelligence.
