The new facility is part of Intuitive’s expansion in Europe
Intuitive, a world leader in minimally invasive medicine and a pioneer in robotic surgery, has opened its first manufacturing facility in Bulgaria. The company opened its new site in Parvomay, expanding its production capabilities in Europe. It will increase the capacity for manufacturing 3D endoscopes used in da Vinci surgical systems worldwide. The Intuitive complex covers over 17,000 square meters and has the capacity to accommodate more than 300 employees.
“Intuitive’s investment is of great importance not only for Parvomay, not only for the Plovdiv region, but for the entire country. It demonstrates that high-tech, globally recognized companies are choosing Bulgaria for their new modern production sites. The Ministry of Innovation and Growth recognizes the implementation of innovations in the healthcare sector as a particularly important priority,” said Krasimir Yakimov, Deputy Minister of Innovation and Growth, at the opening of the manufacturing facility.
He emphasized that Bulgaria has established traditions in the optical industry, and today’s opening of the 3D endoscope manufacturing facility for robotic surgery is a huge step forward in the development of medical technologies for the benefit of society. Yakimov congratulated the investors on creating over 100 new jobs, with the potential to exceed 300, highlighting that the company is one of the key certified investors under the Investment Promotion Act. The Deputy Minister also stated that recent changes to the law have streamlined the procedures and conditions for project certification. Administrative processing times have been cut by half, and the minimum required co-investment has also been reduced by 50%.
The Deputy Minister of Innovation and Growth highlighted that the Ministry has supported companies in Parvomay with BGN 3.6 million through the Recovery and Resilience Plan and the “Competitiveness and Innovation in Enterprises” Program.
“Bulgaria’s reputation in medical innovation and the excellent quality of its optical manufacturing, combined with its strategic location in the heart of Europe, make the country an ideal choice for our new facility,” said Harald Heigis, Vice President of European Operations and General Manager of Intuitive.
The company’s Senior Director of Operations, Stoyan Stoyanov, stated that the availability of a highly skilled workforce and excellent infrastructure make the region of Plovdiv an ideal choice for Intuitive’s expansion in Europe.
