
Innovation and Digital Transformation Minister Ivan Vasilev met with European Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation Ekaterina Zaharieva in Sofia.
Vasilev briefed the European commissioner on the ministry’s structure and vision, saying its two main goals are to shift the economy toward high-value-added industries and products and to advance digitization, making access to services fast, easy and convenient for citizens and businesses. He also said additional tax incentives are being developed for companies engaged in research and development.
Vasilev and Zaharieva also discussed INSAIT’s key role as an institute that attracts world-class researchers and foreign students.
Particular attention was given to opportunities to develop innovation across all sectors. Vasilev said one of the main tasks is to make Bulgaria an attractive place to launch an innovative business.
The meeting was also attended by Yordanka Chobanova, head of the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria, and Deputy Innovation and Digital Transformation Minister Mira Yosifova.
