Minister of Innovation and Growth Daniel Lorer discussed with visiting Turkish Trade Minister Mehmet Mus the advancement of bilateral trade and increasing investments between the two countries. Trade is growing and is exceeding the pre-pandemic levels from 2019.

During the meeting the sides noted that the commercial exchange between the two countries in 2021 totalled 5.2 billion euro, which is an increase of over 30 per cent compared with 2020. Bulgarian exports stood at 2.1 billion euro, or up by 18.7 per cent. The two ministers noted the very good trade relations between Bulgaria and Turkey as well as possibilities for further boosting trade between small and mid-sized companies in various areas.

Turkish investments in Bulgaria total some 2.5 billion euro in various sectors including glass and china making, foods and textiles. The two sides noted the potential for cooperation in energy generation and the capabilities of the two countries to cooperate in green investments and the transition to renewable energy sources. More ways were discussed for the signing of a new agreement for promotion and protection of investments between the countries and boosting cooperation in the field of transport and energy infrastructure, construction, and automotive parts manufacturing.

Also, the two ministers discussed the increase in the price of commodities globally such as steel and cement and the possibilities for cooperation in order to supply the necessary quantities for the Bulgarian industry.
