Bulgaria and Bavaria discussed measures to strengthen economic cooperation, including in artificial intelligence and microelectronics, at a meeting of the Standing Bulgaria–Bavaria Intergovernmental Commission in Munich on November 12, 2025, held under the motto Renewing the Partnership – Building the Future.

Four thematic working groups met during the session: Economy and Innovation; Home Affairs and Internal Security; Justice; and Education, Science and Culture. Bulgaria was represented by Prof. Georgi Angelov, Deputy Minister of Innovation and Growth and co-chair of the Commission, together with experts. The Bavarian delegation was led by Christoph Stoeckle, co-chair of the Commission and Head of Department for International Relations at the Bavarian State Chancellery.

Angelov said the long-standing strong ties between the two sides provide a solid basis for deeper cooperation and pointed to high-potential areas such as artificial intelligence, microelectronics, supercomputing infrastructure, defence innovation, space, and cybersecurity.

He said Bulgaria has strong potential in research, development, and innovation, and emphasized the importance of interinstitutional partnerships that generate tangible investment, foster innovation, and advance joint initiatives in areas of mutual interest.

The session also explored ways to enable Bulgarian companies to participate in Bavarian exhibitions and trade fairs, strengthening the presence of Bulgarian products in high-potential market segments.
