In the world of science, every achievement sparks a new ambition. The people of the future bear the challenging fate of making the impossible possible-creating new solutions and technologies that will expand the limits of knowledge, our societies and economies, and the very ways in which we perceive the world. The agreement between MIT and INSAIT not only puts the Bulgarian institute on the map but makes it part of the global cutting-edge infrastructure in science and technology. It deserves admiration and recognition for all the people who work, learn, and advance scientific progress. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Innovation and Growth Tomislav Donchev stated this at the launch of a joint program between the Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) and the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT CSAIL).
The program will offer opportunities for high-quality research in the fields of computer science and artificial intelligence, with INSAIT and MIT researchers working together. Bulgarian scientists will be able to spend up to one year at the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, collaborating with leading experts on projects in advanced technologies. The main focus is to foster long-term collaboration between INSAIT and MIT on high-impact scientific topics, as well as to create key opportunities for developing Bulgarian talent in artificial intelligence at one of the most elite and competitive institutions in the world. The partnership between INSAIT and MIT marks another important step toward establishing the Institute as a leading international hub for scientific research, and toward positioning Bulgaria as a global center for science and innovation in artificial intelligence and computer science.
The program is supported by the “America for Bulgaria” Foundation and the “Za Primer” Foundation, established by the leadership of SiteGround. Both organizations have a long-standing commitment to advancing education, scientific research, and innovation in Bulgaria, and are providing the funding to enable the exchange between the two institutions.
Special guest at the event was Prof. Armando Solar-Lezama, Director of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT CSAIL). Other attendees included the Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev, Sofia University Rector Prof. Georgi Valchev, INSAIT Founder and Scientific Director Prof. Martin Vechev, INSAIT Executive Director Borislav Petrov, Dessislava Taliokova from the America for Bulgaria Foundation, among others.
*The Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) is MIT’s largest research laboratory in computer science and has been behind major breakthroughs such as RSA cryptography, the first autonomous robots, and many of the foundations of modern machine learning.
